Notes for eBook Participants

Thank you so much for participating in this project. Our goal is to not only promote marquetry as a growing and evolving art and craft, but to promote the artists who are passionately cutting veneers to create pieces that amaze us! Along with the onelovemural.com website, we are creating an “e-book” to showcase everyone involved.

         We will host this e-book on a separate website and each artist will have 2 pages assigned to them. The first page will contain a head shot of yourself, a short bio and 5 interview questions to get to know more about you. The questions can be selected from a pool of questions so that there will be some variety in the answers, and it gives you the choice of how you would like to be heard. We will have a section for links to your social pages, websites, etc.

         The second page will have a picture of your completed piece for the mural. If you would like to participate in sharing your construction process (we highly encourage everyone to do so) then we will be adding a link to a google photo album which will be populated with photos that you send to us.

         We will also be creating social media pages for One Love (Instagram, Facebook, etc.). When posting updates about your work we would ask that you include or share your post with One Love so that we can help promote the project and yourselves as best as possible!

Please provide a bio, written in third person, beginning with where and when you were born, education (if pertinent) initial start in marquetry, group and solo exhibition highlights, collections, teaching history. Last sentence to be- [Last name] works and lives in [Location].

Mandatory question for interview: Why did you choose to participate with the One Love project?

Below are the other interview questions we will ask you to provide answers for. Please choose 5 questions and attempt to keep answers to around 150 words.

1: Can you describe your artistic process from concept to completion?

2: What techniques or mediums are you currently exploring and how do you continue to develop your skills?

3: What is your education and background in marquetry and/or woodworking?

4: How did you learn about marquetry and what motivated you to pursue it as an art and craft? What is it about marquetry that has you hooked?

5:  Which artists or craftspeople have been your biggest influences and how have they shaped your work?

6: What is your experience with public art installations or community projects and why is it important to you?

7: What do you hope to achieve as an artist or craftsperson in the next five years?

8: Does art and craft help your life in other ways? Share your personal stories of how it has helped you.

9: What are some of the challenges you have faced as an artist or craftsperson and how have you overcome them?

10: Do you prefer tradition or technology when approaching craft and how does it influence or shape how you create pieces?

11: How do you incorporate current trends into your work?

12: Is marquetry and woodworking a career for you or is this a hobby? Describe how marquetry fits into your life.
